We all know being ‘mobile-friendly’ is a must, but what does that really mean for mobile users?

The difference a few years has made

When native mobile applications burst onto the scene in 2008, very few foresaw the impact they would have on how we communicate, do business and shop. The previously clumsy user experience of mobile websites made way for apps, and they’ve been thriving ever since. The love of all things sleek and clean is so great that the line between mobile device and desktop is beginning to blur, with the likes of Windows 8 and Mac Apps.

Apps versus the web: Consistency is key

The mobile app versus mobile web debate has been raging for a long time and many have either agreed to disagree on the issue or decided that there is no one-size-fits-all solution. Mobile web has indeed come a long way since the advent of apps, but an overwhelming majority of mobile users still favour apps over websites.

A recent study by Compuware reveals that apps are 85% ahead of mobile websites with 55% of respondents saying they were more convenient and 48% saying they were faster. Only 1% of those who took part in the survey said they preferred mobile websites over apps.
